Community Involvement: AFE Gets an Up Close Look at Minnesota's Future City Competition

future-city-logo
Future City is a nationwide project-based learning program where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future. The Future City Competition engages more than 40,000 middle school students each year throughout the United States and abroad. Students repeatedly report that the program increases their motivation and excitement about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

On Saturday, January 20th, 2018 the AFE, represented by President Jesse Weber, was fortunate enough to get a front row seat to the Minnesota Future City Competition. Jesse was asked to reward the Best Industrial and Commercial Layout as a Special Award Judge. Along with judging the competition, the AFE was also asked to submit their top 5 cities. (results listed below)

1. Lanikai City

2. A.L.A.N.A.

3. Futuropolis

4. Irreplaceable City

5. Tomorrow Special

It was an exciting opportunity to see the bright ideas of creative 7th and 8th graders, and the amount of time and dedication they put into engineering the cities of the future. Thank you to Colleen Feller and The Future City Organization for hosting this event!

~ Jesse Weber

In summary, the AFE is very grateful to have had the opporuntity to be apart of this amazing organization and at the event we also donated $500.00 in support.

Online Vendor Member Directory

We are very excited to announce that AFE Twin Cities Chapter 13 is transitioning to a web based Vendor Member Directory. The new directory replaces our 100 page paper based directory, which had been published for about 60 years. It was a good tool for listing Twin Cities Chapter 13 Vendor Members and Chapter 13 organizational information. However it was difficult to take with you and time consuming to look up Facility Suppliers. The new Vendor Member Directory will provide an excellent resource to quickly find Facility Suppliers that support AFE Twin Cities Chapter 13. Vendor Member listings will include a complete list of capabilities, contact information, photos, videos, and social media links. Additionally, Vendor Members can track browse and click information to better understand visitor effectiveness. The new site also automates annual membership renewals. Please click on the link below for complete details and enrollment options. If you have any questions or want more information, please contact us at contact@afetwincities.org.
